Thomas (Thom) S. Nolan has 39 years of claim adjusting experience. Beginning as a trainee with Nolan & Associates, Inc. in Stone Mountain GA, his early years of adjusting were in the truck / auto physical damage and liability claims. He attended a number of educational facilities geared towards property and general liability claims, which enabled him to further expand his knowledge and experience.
After several years in the field, he was offered the opportunity of managing several of the firm’s branch offices while also assisting in opening other offices in Savannah, Athens and Rome GA. He was capable of combining his adjusting and managerial skills to make each office successful and profitable.
In 1989, after his firm merged with another national independent firm, he was asked to select a city where a new branch office could be established and picked Charleston, South Carolina. As fortune would have it, a few months later HUGO hit the Charleston coast on 9/21/89, causing claims to increase dramatically.
During the process of managing property losses from HUGO, a number of Pest Control related claims developed. As a result he came in close contact with well established and successful pest control operators, entomologists, state inspectors and local associations affiliated with them. This inter-action enabled him to springboard into the handling of pest control claims and he developed a system to evaluate and resolve claims that has now become a hallmark for the industry. This system is called Pest Control Claims Systems, which has been used many times to train claims adjusters, claims managers, pest control company owners and their employees over the last several years.
He then made the decision to start his own independent adjusting firm and Nolan & Company, Inc., became a reality in April, 1996. From that point on pest control claims represent 75% of the claims he handles. During the past 20 years he has been directly involved in handling, or supervising of, over 8,500 pest control related claims. Some claims were resolved through one on one with homeowners, some with attorneys representing the homeowners, or through mediations or the litigation process.
He enjoys an excellent reputation with PCO, insurance companies, entomologists, attorneys, contractors and even adjusters throughout the country who call upon him from time to time for assistance in varying degrees. He has been a desired speaker throughout the Southeast and attends numerous PCO functions because of his associated memberships with various pest control associations. His company is also a member of the National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters.
